Tiger Woods (USA) will not compete in next month’s U.S. Open, the third men’s golf major of the season, as expected.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced the 84 players who will compete in the US Open without qualifying on Wednesday, and Woods’ name was not among them.스포츠토토
Woods’ absence from the US Open was expected after he underwent ankle surgery last month.
Woods, who was involved in a major car accident in February 2021, underwent surgery on March 20 to treat post-traumatic inflammation in the radius bone in his right ankle, which was broken in the accident.
The surgery was expected to take eight to 12 weeks to recover from. Woods has been in long-term rehab since the surgery.
The surgery derailed Woods’ plans to play all four majors of the season.
Woods made the cut at the Masters, the first major of the season, but will skip the PGA Championship and then the U.S. Open, and is unlikely to play in The Open in July.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Open also featured a number of LIV players, including Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson (USA), and Cameron Smith (AUS), setting up another battle of pride with PGA Tour players.
Koepka is a two-time U.S. Open winner, while Johnson and DeChambeau are also U.S. Open champions.
PGA Tour regulars Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) and Rory McIlroy (Spain) will be in action, while Matt Fitzpatrick (England) will attempt to defend his title.
Four South Korean players have confirmed their participation: Lim Sung-jae, Kim Joo-hyung, Kim Siwoo, and Lee Kyung-hoon.
The rest of the US Open field will be determined through qualifying.
This year’s US Open will be held at the Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, California, USA, over four days starting on June 16.
