A horrific incident in Dutch football has taken place in which a player punched an opposition fan.

Ajax striker Steven Berhuis, 32, punched an alleged Twente fan before boarding the team bus after the 38th round of the 2022-2023 Dutch Eredivisie season against Twente at the Enschede de Grolsch Veste stadium in the Netherlands on 28 September.

Berhawis exchanged a few words with the fan before suddenly lunging at him. Bystanders watched as Berhawis assaulted the fan, which was caught on camera.

When he was done, he pointed a finger at the fan and threw a few words at him before getting on the bus.

Local Dutch media reported that Berhuis had lost his temper over racist comments made by a Twente fan towards his black team-mate Brian Bobby.먹튀검증

He was also upset by the result of the match. Ajax suffered a shock 1-3 defeat and finished the season in third place behind Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. It was their worst finish in 14 years and they failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Berhawis apologised immediately following the controversy. “I regret my behaviour. I shouldn’t have done that,” he said on his personal channel. “Every time we play away, we get a lot of threats. I’m used to it now, but people think they can say anything. I know my behaviour is not good, it doesn’t solve anything. I have to set an example as an Ajax player.”

Ajax have not yet issued an official statement.

Berhuis joined Ajax in 2021 from Twente after spells with AZ Alkmaar, Watford and Feyenoord. He scored two goals in 45 appearances for the Netherlands.
