Japanese media Yomiuri Shimbun said on the 25th, “Sasaki Loki was canceled from the first team entry due to a left flank injury. He was diagnosed with ‘inner left oblique muscle damage’ at a hospital in Chiba Prefecture.”

According to the media, Lotte coach Yoshii Chiba told reporters before the game that day, “It is said that it takes two months to pitch. (Recovery) If it is late, it will take more.”

Sasaki started the game against Softbank on the 24th the day before and felt a discomfort in his side during the 6th inning, and said that the pain increased after the steel plate.

Sasaki pitched 6 innings against Softbank on the 24th, giving up 4 hits, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts and 1 run. Sasaki, who recorded the highest ever speed of 165 km by a Japanese pitcher in April, his highest speed was only 160 km in the match against Softbank.

Sasaki is 7-2 with a 1.48 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 13 games this season. It ranks first in ERA and strikeouts in the Pacific League. Da-seung tied for 3rd place.

If Sasaki misses more than two months due to an oblique muscle injury, he is in danger of becoming irrelevant in the individual title competition. Yoshinobu Yamamoto (Orix), who leads the league in most wins (9 wins), is chasing second with an ERA of 1.74 and third with 103 strikeouts.

Last year, Sasaki achieved the youngest perfect record in Japanese professional baseball history, recording 9 wins and 4 losses with an ERA of 2.02 in 20 games (129⅓ innings).

In March, he participated in the 2023 World Baseball Classic as the Japanese national team and contributed to the championship. Until last year, there was a limit on innings, but he suffered an unexpected injury while working as a full-time starter this year.
